Abstract
The world is suffering from disaster COVID-19 pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus SARSCOV2. The Novel coronavirus is
extremely contagious and has a short-spreading span time and it poses serious hazards to the community and humanity. People are
more conscious about COVID-19 infection and fear chronicity of COVID-19 so awareness of ayurvedic vyadhishamatva

(2024) ; Review of the Importance of Immunity (Vyadhishamatva) in COVID-19 by
Ayurvedic view.
Introduction:
Nowadays everyone knows about the COVID-19
pandemic situation; this virus spreading fast and
increasing the morbidity rate so it is a must to know
about COVID-19 and Immunity from an Ayurvedic
view. What is the role of immunity to maintain health
and prevent infection in the human body? so that's
why everyone must know immunity through
Ayurveda during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated the entire
world for almost a year. The morbidity of COVID-19
is increasing despite restrictive measures like
maintaining a safe distance between individuals
(social distancing of two yards), use of face masks,
taking care of hand and respiratory hygiene and
safety, lockdowns across the country, etc. It has also
been seen that people with weak immunity and other
diseases are more affected by COVID-19.
COVID-19 has crippled health systems around the
world and vigorous efforts are being made to develop
a vaccine and satisfactory therapy to avoid this
serious disease. Efforts to find effective therapy for
COVID-19 have provided a good opportunity for
indigenous medical systems like Ayurveda to prove
their eroticism. Ayurveda is a vast collection of
valuable medicines and Rasakalpas for the fight
against the COVID-19 pandemic. According to
Charaka Samhita, the purpose of Ayurveda is to
protect the health of a healthy person and to provide
health to the sick. Priority has been given to health
care over the treatment of diseases. This "Prevention
is better than cure" reflects the importance given by
Ayurveda to this principle.

The principle of disease prevention and disease
prevention measures are first mentioned in the
Charaka Samhita, which was also described in detail
in the Brihatrayi and Laghatrayi texts. In the context
of the current COVID-19 pandemic, it is the need of
the hour to reinstate the principle of disability.
According to Acharya Charak, there are two types of
medicine:
1. Healthy energy enhancer of good spirit of a
healthy person
2. Artasya is the one who removes the disease of
a diseased person.
The first type of therapy is to maintain the positive
health of the person, that is the physical and mental
health of the person.
The follow-up or restoration of health depends on the
individual's strength, includes preventive measures,
and can be compared to the concept of 'disease'.
Vyadhikakshatva means a preventive response to
disease, which is analogous to immunity.
A detailed description of 'Vyadhikshamatva' is
found in Charakasamhita and its Acharya
Chakrapanikrit Sanskrit commentary
'Ayurvedadeepika'. Acharya Chakrapani clearly
defines Vyadhikshamatva. Vyadhikshamatva
(immunity) along with the prevention of manifest
diseases, prevents those diseases which are not yet
manifested i.e. Vyadhikshamatva cures manifest
diseases and prohibits future diseases.

The definition of 'vyadhikshamatva' given by
Acharya Chakrapani applies in general to infectious
and non-communicable diseases. It is said that not all
bodies have the same immunity against all diseases.
Such a person who is neither gross nor agrarian, who
is compact enough, in whom the flesh, shonita, and
asthidhatu are strong, who consumes nutritious food
properly and whose mind is calm, that person is
Vyadhiksham i.e. any kind of disease. able to resist.
On the contrary, persons with qualities are
vyadhiksham.

The word force is used as a synonym for 'Oja', which
is the essence of all metals. Force refers to physical
and mental strength. Three types of force are
described Sahajbal, Kaaljabal, and Yutikritbal
Sahaj Bal is the mental and physical power or force
which is naturally present from birth. Kaaljbal is that
which occurs in favorable conditions such as youth
and healthy seasons. Yutikritbal is that which is
obtained through nutritious food intake and proper
exercise

Observation:
Modern Sciences explained herd immunity and
innate immunity with active, passive immunity and
vyadhishamatva explained by charak Samhita.
Ayurved sciences explained vyadhi bal and vyadhi
dushyadushyatva for maintenance of vyadhishamatva
and Rasayan chikitsa.
15
“Precaution better than cure” benefited from
increasing immunity and protecting disease.
According to modern sciences immune response is
important in SARS-COV-1, SARS-COV-2, and
MERS -Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, For
Example, in polio immune response is 80 %. Covid
19 immune response is 90%

Discussion:
According to Ayurveda, diagnosis, dosha, and
samuchchana of dosha are responsible for the
manifestation of disease. However, these three
factors are present; The manifestation or absence of a
disease depends on another factor which is called
paralysis. The characteristics of diagnosis, defect, and
disease determine immunity and susceptibility to
disease. Immunity or natural immunity is a
physiological response performed by the body to stop
the disease process or reduce the severity of the
disease. 'Immunity' means resistance to a disease
caused by the formation of human antibodies the
development of cellular immunity or both. Modern
medicine has recognized Immunomodulators as
effective tools in healthy and diseased conditions. It
has also been recognized that modulation of the
immunosuppressive response may provide an
alternative to traditional chemotherapy for various
diseases. Chemotherapy provides immunomodulatory
benefits and chemotherapeutics are rich in
antioxidants that have liver function, nephropathy,
and heart function. As far as Vyadhinashan action of
chemicals is concerned, the chemicals themselves
don't need to be involved in the disease process or
recovery-dissolution, but they enhance the quality of
metals and thus help in preventing the active phases
of disease acquisition. We do as the body's metals
become strong, in the same way, the necessary
Khavaiguna is not available for the manifestation of
stasis and disease. It can also be said that chemicals
increase 'p;rohost resistance' against diseases. The
chemicals work at different levels (Rasdhatu, Agni,
and Srutra) to increase immunity
7,11,13
Proper use of chemical medicines along with
following dietary diet, routine, and rituals are suitable
for increasing the 'Vyadhikshtam' of a person. Along
with the physical feelings, Manasbhava (Sattva) also
has importance in increasing 'Vyadhikshmatva'
which is obtained by regular adherence to Achar
Rasayana

COVID-19 is a disease of vital sources and most of
the causes of this pandemic Characteristics can be
associated with Janpadodhwasvyadhi.
Chemotherapy can be used along with other measures
as described in the Charakasamhita for the treatment
of Janpadhovasavyadhi like COVID-19
14
The following ayurvedic formulations can be used to
strengthen the vital sources in the COVID-19
pandemic such as
1. Amalaki,
2. Guduchi,
3. Yashtimadhu,
4. Haritaki,
5. Pippali,
6. Suvarnabhasma,
7. Yashadbhasma,
8. Ayush Kwath,
9. Chyawanprash Avaleh,
10. Vyaghri Haritaki Avaleh,
11. Sanshmani Vati,
12. Mahasudarshan Ghanvati, etc.
All Above Yoga are available in granthas and
textbook.
